Grok Bot computer stuck? Here's the safe order of fixes
When your Bots can't reach their cloud computer, Grok Bot's help page on the computer lays out an order to try fixes in, from least risky to most. Your chats are stored somewhere else, so a computer problem doesn't delete your conversation history by itself.
The controls are in Settings > Computer, under Bot's computer.
1. Wait, then choose Retry
If the app says Reconnecting or Couldn't Reach Grok Bot's Computer, wait and choose Retry. Your Bots, files and logins are safe while it reconnects. Don't reset during this, the help page says.
2. Quit the app all the way and reopen it
On a Mac, choose Quit from the menu bar. Closing the window isn't enough.
3. Update, if an update is offered
In Settings > Computer, use Update Bot's Computer. The text under it tells you which kind of update is waiting:
- A software update refreshes Grok Bot's software and keeps everything, including apps you installed.
- A computer update rebuilds the computer. It keeps your Bots, files and logins but removes installed apps and packages.
If Update says the files aren't ready, wait a moment and try again. Don't reset to force it.
4. Recover, if it still won't connect
Recover saves what it can, then builds a new computer from your saved data. Running work stops. Installed apps and packages are removed. If the computer couldn't be reached to save first, very recent changes may be lost.
Recover usually takes a few minutes. You can choose Continue in Background.
5. Reset, only as a last resort
Reset also builds a new computer from your last saved data, with the same risk to very recent changes. Use it only after the steps above.
If Bots recently disappeared, or saving failed, contact support before you use Recover or Reset, the help page says.
Don't start a second Update or Reset while one is running. If Recover or Reset fails, choose Retry Recovery or Retry Reset once, then stop and contact support.
Chats or Bots look missing?
Often they aren't gone. Before you reset, the help page says to:
- Quit and reopen the app.
- Open the same account on another device, such as your phone.
- Check Hidden Bots in the sidebar on desktop, or Show Hidden Bots on a phone.
- Make sure you're signed in to the same Cursor account.
Don't use Recover or Reset to look for missing chats.
What to do with it
- Retry and wait come first. Reset comes last.
- Keep your own backups of files on your Mac or Windows machine. Grok Bot doesn't cover those.
- Expect to reinstall project folders such as
node_modulesor a Python virtual environment after a rebuild. - If you contact support, include your Cursor account email, Grok Bot version, what you already tried, the Bot's name and a screenshot of the computer status.
