SpaceXAI says Grok Voice 3.0 now runs Grok Bot's voice mode
Grok Bot's voice mode now runs on Grok Voice 3.0, the speech model SpaceXAI announced Oct. 14, according to the company's announcement.
"Grok Voice 3.0 also powers Grok Bot's voice mode," SpaceXAI said in the post, which calls the release "the world's most intelligent speech-to-speech model." A speech-to-speech model takes in spoken words and answers out loud.
The news matters to anyone who talks to a Bot instead of typing, because it names the model behind those conversations.
What SpaceXAI claims
The company leans on outside testing. "In Artificial Analysis's independent testing, Grok Voice 3.0 ranks #1 on the Speech-to-Speech Index, with a score of 86.9," the post said. Its table, credited to Artificial Analysis and dated Oct. 13, puts Grok Voice 2.0 at 81.3 on the same index.
For people holding a conversation, the more useful number may be Full Duplex Bench, which the post describes as "a measure of how naturally it handles pauses, turn-taking, and interruptions." SpaceXAI said the new model scores 97% there.
The post also claims "class-leading latency at under one second," meaning the wait before the model starts answering. GG has not timed it.
SpaceXAI tied the model to Grok Bot in cars, too. Tesla drivers can use "Grok Bot for bigger tasks like ordering a coffee or booking dinner," hands-free, the post said.
What the post doesn't say
The Grok Bot changelog has no Grok Voice 3.0 entry. As of 9:45 a.m. CT Oct. 19, its latest release was still v0.70.2, dated Oct. 11, so there's no app version number tied to the switch.
The price in the post, "$0.08 / min ($4.80 / hr)," is for developers using SpaceXAI's Voice Agent API. The post lists no separate price or limit for Grok Bot users, and nothing in it says talking to your Bot costs by the minute.
Voice mode is you talking with your own Bot. It doesn't mean Grok Bot phones businesses on its own. A community template that calls restaurants does that through a third-party calling service; see the restaurant call template.
The official @bot account said Oct. 16 that voice calls were "faster, more reliable, and better at remembering past conversations," as GG reported Oct. 17. That thread did not name a model. GG covered the voice launch in Grok Bot can talk now.
What to do with it
- Try a live voice chat. In any Bot's chat, leave the message box empty and choose Start voice chat, per SpaceXAI's docs. The app shows Voice chat while you're on the line, and the conversation can get a Voice chat card when you hang up.
- Test the interruption claim yourself. Cut the Bot off midsentence or pause to think. That's the behavior Full Duplex Bench measures.
- Use dictation when you want to edit first. On desktop, Start voice input or Cmd/Ctrl+D types what you say into the box so you can fix it before sending. On iPhone and Android, it's Start dictation. That is separate from voice chat.
- Want it to call a business? That takes a calling connector, not voice mode. Start with the restaurant call template and its approval step.
