How phone access works for Grok Bot
Grok Bot's official docs don't describe a way for a bot to place or answer a phone call. Cursor's Grok Bot docs say bots work through connected apps and a cloud computer, so phone access today comes from a phone service you connect.
Don't confuse this with voice chat. Cursor's voice chat help page covers talking out loud with your own bot in the app, not a phone line.
Connecting a phone service
The Grok Bot changelog's Oct. 11 and Oct. 26 entries cover adding custom MCP servers, the connectors that let a bot use another company's tools. Several phone providers below offer one. Cursor's docs also say a bot comes back to you when something needs your approval.
Providers and prices
Prices come from each company's pricing page, checked Oct. 31.
- Inkbox: A free plan includes 30 one-time call minutes and no dedicated number. The $25-a-month Developer plan adds one number, 300 texts and 30 call minutes a month in the U.S. and Canada, according to Inkbox.
- Vapi: 5 cents a minute for hosting, with model costs passed through at cost, according to Vapi.
- Retell: 7 to 31 cents a minute, with 11 cents as its example, according to Retell.
- Bland: 14 cents a minute on the Start plan, which includes an incoming number and a cap of 100 calls a day, or 12 cents a minute plus $299 a month on the Build plan, according to Bland.
- Twilio: U.S. outgoing calls cost 1.4 cents a minute, and local numbers cost $1.15 a month, according to Twilio. Texts cost 0.83 cent per message segment plus carrier fees. A segment holds up to 160 standard characters, so longer texts or ones with emoji count as more than one. Twilio is a raw phone line, not a ready-made assistant.
Getting a number
No official doc says Grok Bot comes with its own number. You get one from a provider. The changelog says routines can start from a webhook, a private web address that can receive data, which is the kind of address many phone services send incoming calls and texts to. Check your provider's docs for how it delivers them.
