# Musk boosts user's Bot that says it cut an Xfinity bill $43 a month

*News · Oct. 18, 2026*

A Grok Bot user posted Saturday that they told their Bot to figure out how to pay for itself. The Bot's reply, in a screenshot attached to the post, said it had cut the user's Xfinity bill by $43 a month.

"I told my Grok Bot to go figure out how to pay for itself. I love this app," Mike P (@mikepat711) wrote at 8:40 a.m. CT Oct. 17. Elon Musk quote-posted it at 7:16 p.m. CT the same day: "This really works! Grok @Bot can pay for itself."

By about 11:50 a.m. CT Sunday, Mike P's post had about 1,000 likes and 1.25 million views. Musk's quote-post had more than 11,000 likes and about 2.4 million views.

Xfinity has not confirmed the order. All dollar and speed figures below come from the Bot's own wording in the screenshot.

## What the screenshot says

According to the Bot message Mike P posted:

- A person named Sagar "finalized it." The Xfinity order number is blacked out in the screenshot.

- The new plan is "300 Mbps for $70.90 a month total, with no contract and no mobile line or Peacock."

- Sagar "pitched the mobile line twice," and the Bot said it turned the offer down both times.

- That price is "$43 a month less than October's bill."

- "October's $113.90 bill is already out, so the lower price shows up on next month's bill as an adjustment." The Bot added that it would check that bill when it comes in.

- The Bot closed with, "Nice work approving it."

The screenshot does not say whether the Bot used a phone call, Xfinity chat, email or a web form.

The post does not share the full prompt or any template beyond the one line Mike P wrote.

## Why the approval line matters

"Nice work approving it" suggests Mike P signed off on the change before it went through, though the screenshot doesn't show that step. Grok Bot is built to ask before it buys, sends or changes something it can't undo. See [Stop signs](/basics-stop-signs-approvals/) and GG's earlier [Bot pay, apps, and approvals](/bot-pay-apps-approvals/) roundup.

For a business version of the same idea, with permission lines that keep a haggling Bot from overcommitting, see [Haggle Bot: permission lines for procurement](/haggle-procurement-permission-lines/).

## What this is not

- It is not an official Xfinity or SpaceXAI case study. It is one user's public post plus Musk's quote-post.

- It does not prove every internet bill can drop $43. Results depend on your plan, promotions and what you approve.

- No template or skill file was named.

> **What to do with it**
> - **Try a bounded ask.** Tell a Bot to find a cheaper plan from your current provider, show you the quote first, and wait for your approval before accepting anything. Do not hand it "change my account however you want."
> - **Keep the approval.** If the Bot reports a deal, read the speed, price, contract length and add-ons before you tap Allow. Mike P's Bot said it turned down a mobile add-on twice.
> - **Check next month's bill.** Mike P's Bot noted October's bill already went out at the old price. Ask your Bot to watch the next statement for the adjustment.
> - **Reuse the permission pattern.** If you already run a procurement or bill Bot, compare your stop signs to the [Haggle](/haggle-procurement-permission-lines/) permission lines.
