# Grok Bot says computer tasks now run 3x faster, and it can read X Chat

*News · Oct. 17, 2026*

Grok Bot finishes computer tasks three times sooner on average than it did before, SpaceXAI said Friday in an update thread that also added X Chat reading, email plus aliases, and a batch of new connectors.

"Grok Bot is much faster. Computer tasks finish 3x sooner on average, and replies to everything else arrive in less than half the time," the official @bot account posted at 2:55 p.m. CT Oct. 16. That post had about 3.5 million views by midday Saturday.

The speed figure is the company's own claim. GG has not timed it.

Elon Musk quote-posted the speed claim at 6:35 p.m. CT with one line: "Grok @Bot got much faster." His post had nearly 10,000 likes and about 4.1 million views by midday Saturday.

The update is not in the official changelog yet. As of midday Saturday, the [Grok Bot changelog](https://x.ai/changelog/bot) still listed v0.70.2, dated Oct. 11, as the latest release, so there is no version number to attach to these changes.

## What the thread lists

- **Faster work.** Computer tasks, meaning jobs where a Bot drives its own browser or desktop, finish "3x sooner on average," and other replies "arrive in less than half the time."

- **A new look.** "Cards in chat have a new design with a cleaner layout," and the app "has a refreshed look with a new typeface and themes."

- **Better voice calls.** Calls are "faster, more reliable, and better at remembering past conversations."

- **Plus aliases for Bot email.** "Grok Bot's email now supports plus aliases, so you can set a routine to run only on mail sent to one address."

- **Notifications on one device.** "Notifications now go only to the device you're using."

- **X Chat.** "Grok Bot can now read X Chat. Connect X, then ask Bot to work across your messages."

- **New connectors.** "Grok Bot now connects to Robinhood, Coinbase, Trello, PostHog, beehiiv, eToro, and more."

- **Marketplace submissions.** "Teams can also now submit connectors to the Grok Bot marketplace."

The thread also repeated that you can tag @bot in a post on X to hand it work, which GG [covered Oct. 12](/tag-bot-on-x/).

## Plus aliases, in plain words

A plus alias is an address with a tag after a plus sign, such as name+receipts@ instead of name@. Mail to either one lands in the same inbox, but the tag tells the Bot which job the message belongs to.

Sam Sokolin, whose X bio reads "building @bot and other things @SpaceXSI," described the two uses in an Oct. 14 post that the @bot thread quoted: "Send and receive email using dedicated aliases, or set up routines that only trigger for mail to a specific alias!"

That means you can give a store one tagged address, a newsletter another, and set a separate routine for each. If your Bot doesn't have an address yet, start with GG's [Grok Bot now has its own email inbox](/native-bot-email/).

## X Chat

The X Chat change lets a Bot read your private X messages once you connect X.

Paul Vann, whose X bio reads "@spacexsi & @x api," posted about it at 9:39 a.m. CT Friday. "A lot of you have been asking for @bot to be able to access your @chat messages and message requests to help manage busy inboxes," he wrote. "I've had my @bot reviewing new message requests all week, approving them, and helping me stay on top of my inbox."

That's his own setup. The @bot post says the Bot can "read" X Chat; it doesn't say approving requests is a default.

Musk added at 6:33 p.m. CT Friday, in a quote-post of the thread's voice-call item: "Also, ask Grok @Bot to connect to your 𝕏 DMs. Best way to use it."

SpaceXAI's [computer and apps docs](https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/computer-and-apps) say Bots can already search and read public X without you connecting an X account. "For your DMs, bookmarks, home timeline, or who liked your posts, add the X plugin from **Connect apps** and sign in with X."

## Money connectors and marketplace submissions

Robinhood, Coinbase, and eToro are brokerage and crypto accounts. The v0.70.2 changelog entry already set a rule for that kind of data: "After a bank or brokerage connector returns data, the Bot asks before sharing it anywhere else." GG's earlier [Plaid finance connector](/finance-connector-plaid/) piece covers how money connectors fit into a Bot's setup.

Trello is a project board tool, PostHog is product analytics, and beehiiv is a newsletter platform.

The new [submit a plugin page](https://x.ai/bot/marketplace/submit-a-plugin) says companies can "Distribute your plugin or MCP server to Grok (coming soon), Grok Bot, and Cursor users." An MCP server is a common way for a service to plug into AI assistants. The form asks for a work email, an organization, a server URL or public GitHub repository, a description, and testing instructions, and says SpaceXAI will "review it for the marketplace."

> **What to do with it**
> - **Retry a slow computer task.** If you gave up on a browser job because it dragged, run it again and compare. Judge by your own job, not the 3x average.
> - **Give each email job its own alias.** Route receipts, newsletters, or signups to tagged addresses and set one routine per tag.
> - **Connect X Chat on purpose.** Your Bot will read private messages. Keep sending replies and accepting requests behind your own approval. See [Stop signs](/basics-stop-signs-approvals/).
> - **Go slow with money connectors.** Read-only questions first. Connectors are shared by every Bot on your account, per [Connect apps](/basics-connect-apps/).
> - **Run a service?** The submit page is open now. Listing is not automatic; SpaceXAI reviews each one.
