# Musk boosts Memory Transfer, a community Bot for moving your AI memory

*News · Oct. 13, 2026*

A community-built Grok Bot called Memory Transfer brings what ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI assistant has learned about you into Grok Bot, and Elon Musk quote-posted it overnight.

X user Brian Roemmele posted the Bot at 10:46 p.m. CT Oct. 12. Musk quote-posted it at 11:43 p.m. CT with one line: "Grok @Bot memory transfer."

By about noon CT Oct. 13, Musk's post had more than 5,600 likes, and Roemmele's original had more than 1,500.

## What it does

Memory Transfer's page on x.ai says it "brings what Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI knows about you into Grok Bot." The same page says, "You review each item one at a time, and it saves only what you choose to keep."

Roemmele pitched it as a way to skip starting over. The Bot "brings over what Claude or ChatGPT learned about you, so you don't spend weeks re-explaining yourself," he wrote.

His post lists two ways to bring memory over: paste one prompt into your old chat and send the Bot the answer, or drop in your full ChatGPT or Claude data export.

He put the review step first. Nothing gets in automatically, according to the post. You go through every item one line at a time, only what you keep is saved, and each kept item is tagged with where it came from and when. He also wrote that other AIs' guesses don't become facts and that nothing you've already saved is overwritten unless you say so.

## Who made it

The Bot lives on x.ai's Bot share host, but it is not a SpaceXAI product. The share page says it was created by a third-party user, not by the company, that "it may act on your behalf," and that choosing "Add to Grok Bot" means you accept the terms. The page credits it "by Brian."

Neither Roemmele's post nor the Bot page says how an uploaded data export is stored or how long it's kept, or names which export formats beyond ChatGPT and Claude work.

## What to do with it

- **Try the prompt route first.** It moves a summary instead of your whole chat history. Save the full export for when the summary misses something.

- **Read every line before you keep it.** The review step is the point. Drop anything that's out of date, a guess, or something you wouldn't want every Bot on your account to know.

- **Remember the computer is shared.** Official docs say every Bot on your account uses the same cloud computer, and files on it are visible to every Bot. If an export file lands there, treat it like any other sensitive file and delete it when you're done.

- **It's a template, not an update.** Nothing changed in Grok Bot itself. The official Bot changelog still tops out at v0.68.1 (Oct. 7).
