Template of the week: Scam Email Detector watches for phishing
If your public inbox still gets daily phishing attempts, a community Grok Bot template is built for that job: Scam Email Detector, by Dirty Tesla.
Elon Musk quote-posted it at 4:50 p.m. CT Oct. 13 with one line: "Grok @Bot detects scam emails!" By about 11:52 a.m. CT Oct. 14, Musk's post had more than 4,500 likes and about 1.6 million views.
What it does
The Bot's page on x.ai says it "Watches your inbox and warns you about phishing and scam emails before you fall for them. Stays quiet otherwise."
Dirty Tesla, posting as @DirtyTesLa, introduced it at 10:57 a.m. CT Oct. 13. "I have public email addresses, and I get daily scams in my inbox. They are getting harder to distinguish from legit emails," the post says. "I use my Scam Email Detector bot to help alert me to scam emails."
Neither the Bot page nor the post spells out which mail connector it uses, how it scores a message, or what "warn" looks like in chat. Treat those as gaps until you add the Bot and read its own setup.
Who made it
The share page credits it "by Dirty." It also carries the stock third-party notice: the Bot "was created by a third-party user," not by the company, "may act on your behalf," and "By clicking Add to Grok Bot, you accept the terms."
It is not a SpaceXAI release. Musk's amplify is an executive shout-out to a practitioner build, the same pattern as Tuesday's Memory Transfer coverage.
When to use it
- You have a public or high-volume inbox and want a Bot whose only job is to flag scam and phishing mail.
- You already keep sends and deletes behind stop signs and are willing to connect mail knowing every Bot on your account shares that connector. (Basics #6, Connect apps.)
- You want a quiet Bot: the page's pitch is that it warns on scams and otherwise stays out of the way.
Skip it if you need an official SpaceXAI security product, or if you are not ready to give any Bot read access to that mailbox.
How to call it
- Open the marketplace page: Scam Email Detector.
- Read the one-line job and the third-party terms on that page.
- Click Add to Grok Bot and finish whatever setup the Bot asks for.
- Connect only the mailbox you want watched, then ask for a read-only test on a known spam or phishing sample you already filed away.
Before you add: three safety notes
- Read access is enough at first. Do not give a new inbox Bot send rights until a few quiet days look right. Pair it with Stop signs.
- Connectors are account-wide. Installed mail plugins are available to every Bot on your account. Disconnect the mailbox if another Bot should not see it.
- This is a template, not a platform update. Official Grok Bot security still lives in SpaceXAI's own docs and changelog. Musk boosting a community Bot does not make it verified.
