Official docs: tag @bot on X to hand a post to your Grok Bot

News · Oct. 12, 2026

Official Grok Bot docs now spell out how to tag @bot on X so your main Bot takes a post as a task.

The page, Tag @bot on X at docs.x.ai, gives this example: reply to a thread with “@bot summarize this thread and send the key points to my Slack.” @bot answers on X with a short confirmation. The work and its results stay in that Bot’s conversation in the Grok Bot app; @bot posts only the confirmation on X.

Your Bot receives your post, the post you replied to, and any post either of them quotes, including still photos. The first time a request goes through, X sends a notification that tagged requests start work automatically and use your Grok Bot usage.

Scout first saw the page on Oct. 12, 2026. A secondary site, Grokbotwiki, said the help pages had the topic by Oct. 11. The docs page says it was last updated Oct. 7, 2026. As of this writing, the official Bot changelog still tops at v0.68.1 (Oct. 7, 2026) and does not list a Tag @bot on X entry.

What you need first

Per the docs, you need:

The X for Grok Bot plugin is optional. The docs say @bot forwards requests with or without it. The plugin is for search, timelines, mentions, trends, and bookmarks.

Where tagging works

Tagging works for X accounts based in most countries. It is not yet available for accounts based in Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway, the docs say.

@bot goes by the country X has on record for your account. Current location and any VPN have no effect. If X lists only a broader region, such as “South Asia,” or no country at all, tagging is not available yet either. In those cases @bot does not reply.

What @bot’s reply means

The docs’ reply table:

  1. A short line saying it sent your request to your Grok Bot means your main Bot has the task. Open Grok Bot to follow the work and review the result.
  2. “Sign up for Grok Bot: https://x.ai/bot” means no Grok account is connected to the X account you posted from. Connect X on grok.com, set up Grok Bot, and tag @bot again.
  3. “Grok Bot isn’t set up yet. Open https://x.ai/bot” means the accounts are connected, but you don’t have a Bot of your own yet. Create a Bot, then tag again.

When @bot stays quiet

If @bot doesn’t reply, your Bot didn’t get the request. Common causes from the docs:

What to do with it

  1. Connect X on grok.com if you haven’t, confirm you own at least one Bot, then try one tagged reply on a still-photo or text post in an eligible region.
  2. Treat the first few tagged runs like any other outbound job: keep sends, publishes, and purchases behind approval. See Stop signs.
  3. If @bot stays quiet, check the quiet list above before retrying. Region, a missing self-tag, @grok, video/GIF, moderation, and usage are the documented stops.
