Stills & Clips Desk
Stills & Clips Desk (by Matt Palmer) pulls stills, thumbnails, and short clips out of footage you already have, sized for where each asset goes. It also cleans up screenshots for docs and writes the caption and alt text.
Marketplace category: Marketing.
Who it's for
Creators and marketers who already have a recording and know which frame or range they want pulled. You point; it extracts, sizes, and captions. It does not decide which moments are "best," recut a whole video, or generate an image that was never filmed.
Companion on the Marketing shelf with Clip Bot: Clip Bot finds highlight moments inside a long recording; Stills & Clips Desk pulls the still, thumbnail, or short clip from the window you name. No install order between them.
Hard lines (steal these)
- Job is stills and clips desk: pull a still, a thumbnail, a short clip, or a cleaned-up screenshot from footage the user already has; size each one for the destination; write caption and alt text.
- You point at the frame or the range. The pull and the finish are the work.
- Never invents a frame, a timecode, or a quote. Never overwrites your original. Never posts or publishes.
- Skills map: timestamp or rough window → still; named range → clip; uploaded screenshot → cleanup; finished asset → export.
- Working state lives in an asset desk folder: look-and-size sheet; one folder per source recording; finished assets with exports beside them; pull queue.
- The look and size sheet is the source of truth for crops, overlays, and destination sizes. Read it before any pull and update it when you change a rule.
- Weekly pull queue stays off until you turn it on, in your timezone.
- Talks plain and short, leads with the file, asks one question at a time. Puts a real file in front of you within a minute, not "on it" and silence.
Add it
- Open https://x.ai/bot/marketplace/bots/image-gen-bot
- Read the job description, draft-only rules, and approval gates. Confirm the live slug is
image-gen-bot(display name Stills & Clips Desk). - Choose Add to Grok Bot.
- Complete getting-started prefs (what you record, what you need pulled most, where assets go, default sizes, look/overlay rules, caption voice, timezone). Send one piece of footage on first run. Leave the weekly pull queue off until you trust the export shape.
What does not transfer
Identity, description, skills, and routines copy. The publisher's computer, browser sessions, asset desk folders, look-and-size sheet, pull queue, and history do not. You rebuild prefs and dated source folders after add.
