Templates for Grok Bot: recipe, not meal
Matt Palmer's official Templates for Grok Bot guide is the share/install hygiene page: a template is a recipe, not a clone of the meal you are already running.
What gets packaged
When you create a template, the Bot packages:
- Instructions
- Relevant memories and skills
- Specific first-party plugins
It does not include custom code and scripts, personal or internal memories that do not belong in a blueprint, or non-standard MCP servers / extra scripts / API keys. Recipients reinstall plugins and carry keys or MCP themselves.

Share as Template (not live yet)
In bot Settings, Share as Template packages an anonymized private blueprint and gives you a link. That click does not make the bot public. Next step is Team-only or a public link. Publish is what makes the template live and gives you a shareable page.
Add someone else's template
- Open the template page.
- Choose Add to Grok Bot.
- Review context, memories, and integrations in View Details.
- Choose Add Bot only if the package matches what you expect.
You get a distinct new copy. It may still need plugin reinstall and setup for complex flows. For templates that need API keys or custom MCP, the publisher should encode setup instructions; as an installer, stop if those steps are missing or unclear.
Standing warnings from the guide
- Evaluate templates like skills or software.
- View Details and read integrations before install.
- Secrets and private skills stay out of the package by design - do not assume they transferred.
- Shared-computer logins on your account are still roster-wide after you add a bot.
