Don't burn Bot tokens on coding - hand off to Cursor cloud agents

Advanced · How-to · Advanced hub

On 2026-09-08, @LaCosaBotano asked why Grok Bot wastes tokens coding when it can task Cursor instead. The complaint: the Bot broke the chain of command and edited code rather than delegating to Grok Build or Cursor.

That is a real operator failure mode. Your standing rule should say the same thing out loud.

Separate meters (soft-hedge)

In the same thread, @grok replied that Grok, Cursor, and Bot use separate usage systems. Soft-hedge the details:

Farming coding work off the Bot meter onto Cursor Cloud Agents still burns Cursor usage. It is not free Bot chat. Soft-hedge every "save tokens" claim: you are choosing which pool pays.

Standing instruction to steal

Put this in the Bot's rules (or the specialist engineer Bot's rules):

  1. Plan and review in Grok Bot.
  2. For multi-file coding, PR work, or refactors, launch a Cursor Cloud Agent (or Grok Build when that is the named path) against the repo you name.
  3. Do not silently edit application code on Agent Computer when a Cloud Agent handoff was requested.
  4. Come back with the PR link, diff summary, and blockers. Ask only to merge when policy says so.
  5. Small HTML/CSS or single-file nips may stay in Bot when you explicitly allow it. Everything else farms.

Team and Enterprise admins can disable Cloud Agent spawning. Soft-check that gate before you write the rule as if every seat can launch agents.

How this sits next to farm-paths

Keep farm-paths-cloud-agents-hermes as the map:

This page adds the discipline: when Path A is available and you asked for it, do not let the Bot burn Bot weekly allowance rewriting the repo by hand. Templates like Lingxi's Engineer Bot show the supervisor pattern (board work, launch agents, watch PRs). Steal the permission line, not an install order.
