Two farm paths: Cloud Agents vs Desk Hermes / local LLMs
When Grok Bot needs heavy coding, farm the work off the Grok Bot meter. Two common paths:
- 1. Cursor Cloud Agents launched from a Grok Bot (GitHub / Cursor coding computers).
- 2. Desk Hermes or a local OpenAI-compatible server on a registered Desk machine (
http://<local-host>:8080/v1).
Pick the path that matches the job. Do not pretend they bill the same way.
Cloud Agents from Grok Bot
Grok Bot can delegate coding tasks to separate Cloud Agent computers under your Cursor Cloud Agent controls. That work is not free Grok Bot weekly chat. It burns Cursor usage and follows Cloud Agent model defaults.
Team and Enterprise admins can disable Cloud Agent spawning for the whole team. There is no separate “codebase plugin” that replaces that delegation model. The Bot launches agents against the repo you name.
Templates like Lingxi's Engineer Bot show the product pattern: board work, launch cloud agents, watch PRs, ask only to merge. Treat that as a metered engineering supervisor, not a free chat tab.
Desk Hermes / local OpenAI-compatible
For stacks that keep coding on Desk (Knox practice): Grok Bot plans and reviews; Hermes on Desk or your local OpenAI-compatible server writes the heavy code.
- Reach LAN endpoints by running tools on a registered Desk PC, not by assuming the shared cloud computer is on your Wi-Fi.
- Alive check:
GET http://<local-host>:8080/v1/modelsonly. A 404 on/or/healthdoes not mean dead. - Keep assignments small and sequential. Oversized local jobs stall.
- Prefer a Hermes prompt file plus working directory over huge PowerShell inline prompts.
- Park finished files on Desk first. The Grok Bot computer is scratch.
Name Cursor Cloud or Claude Code in a piece only when that product path actually uses them. A Cipher Blocks-style producer farms Hermes/local for game code, not Cloud Agents.
Standing rule
Complex coding leaves the Grok Bot meter. Small HTML/CSS may stay in Grok Bot. Everything else: Cloud Agents (if enabled and you accept Cursor usage) or Desk Hermes / local http://<local-host>:8080/v1.
