Grok Bot 0.75.8 lets Bots offer Auto-review rule changes
Grok Bot can now offer to add, change, or remove one of your Auto-review rules, the standing instructions that tell the safety check what to allow and what to stop. The change shows up on a card, and nothing happens until you confirm it.
The feature is the headline item in v0.75.8, listed on the official Grok Bot changelog under Oct. 24. The entry, titled "Auto-review rule cards and smarter connectors," also includes versions 0.75.6 and 0.75.7. The changelog says the rule cards appear "in the app" and require Grok Bot 0.75.2 or later.
Auto-review is the check that looks at a Bot's actions before they run and shows an approval card when it wants your OK. Two other lines in the release aim at how often those cards appear. "Auto-review takes a second look before showing an approval card, so fewer safe actions need one," the changelog says. It also says Auto-review "no longer counts a Bot saving or editing one of its routines as risky by itself."
The release also means you no longer have to reconnect a connector when it changes. "When a connector such as X adds tools or fields, Bots can use them without you reconnecting it," the notes say. A connector whose sign-in has expired now shows Authenticate in the app instead of Connected, for Grok Bot 0.71.2 or later.
Other changes in the notes:
- Scheduling uses the calendar you've connected, Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar, and offers to connect one only when neither is.
- "In a chat only you can see, a Bot reads your own private files without asking first."
- When a Bot installs a plugin while working, it can use that plugin's skills right away.
- Images a connector returns as files reach the Bot as images, and other binary files are no longer read as garbled text.
- When a Bot posts to Slack for you, such as from a routine, your phone isn't notified and the unread badge doesn't go up.
- With Route traffic through this computer on, the connection comes back as soon as the Bot's computer wakes, for most accounts.
- X Money connects in one tap for more X accounts. If it can't connect yours, the Bot says so instead of offering a sign-in.
- For Team Bots, "People not on a Team Bot's share list, including teammates, no longer have access to it until an owner shares it with them." A Team Bot's routines can now read Slack channels that you and the Bot are both in.
The release does not include Calls, the phone-calling feature Elon Musk posted about Oct. 25. As of 11:48 a.m. CT Oct. 27, the changelog listed no 0.77 release. (Our Oct. 26 story on Calls.) The previous release, v0.75.5 on Oct. 23, added the Vault for saved logins and cards. (Our story on 0.75.5.)
What to do with it
- Update the app. Rule cards need 0.75.2 or later, and the Authenticate label needs 0.71.2 or later.
- When a Bot offers a rule card, read the rule before you confirm it. A narrow rule, such as one folder or one kind of email, is safer than a broad one. Our Basics guide to Auto-review rules walks through it.
- If a connector seems stuck, look for an Authenticate label in the app. If it still says Connected, you shouldn't need to reconnect it to get new tools.
