Installers labeled Grok Bot 1.0.0 appear on Cursor's download server
Installer files labeled Grok Bot 1.0.0 have appeared on Cursor's download server, but the official Grok Bot changelog still lists version 0.78.1, released Oct. 27, as the latest release.
grokbot.guru checked the Mac installer for Apple silicon Thursday morning with a HEAD request, which reads a file's details without downloading it. The server returned the 155.6 MB .dmg file and dated it Oct. 27 at 6:14 p.m. CT. A check of the Windows x64 installer the same morning also returned a working response.
SpaceXAI hasn't announced 1.0.0, and the changelog at x.ai/changelog/bot has no entry for it. What the version changes and when it will be released are not known.
Kevin Logan posted on X Oct. 27 that "Grok Bot 1.0 Stable just showed up on the download server." The next day he asked, "Has anyone seen Grok Bot 1.0 being pushed out yet to users?"
The newest official release, 0.78.1, added shopping cards and subscription templates. grokbot.guru covered the release before it in Grok Bot 0.77.0 adds Import Memory, a Permissions page and Vault payments.
What to do with it
- Wait for the update to reach you through the app. You can check for it on the Updates pane in Settings. See "How to upgrade" below.
- Don't install 1.0.0 from a direct file link before SpaceXAI releases it.
- Watch the official changelog for the release notes.
- grokbot.guru will update this story when 1.0.0 is announced.
How to upgrade
Update, Oct. 29: Readers asked how to move from 0.78 to 1.0.0. Here is what Cursor's official docs say about updating the desktop app on Mac and Windows.
- The app updates itself. On Mac and Windows, "the app checks for updates automatically and offers each new version," according to Cursor's deployment docs.
- To update now: Open Settings from the account menu or with Cmd+, on a Mac or Ctrl+, on Windows. In the Updates pane, choose Check for Updates, then Restart to Update, according to Cursor's settings docs.
- Automatic Updates is on by default. A downloaded update installs and the app restarts while you're away, such as when your screen is locked or the computer has been idle for at least 10 minutes and Grok Bot isn't busy. You can turn it off and update only when you choose Restart to Update, the settings docs say.
- Check your version: Open the account menu, choose Support, then About, according to the deployment docs.
- Don't confuse the two updates. Update Bot's Computer, under Settings, Computer, updates the cloud computer your Bots use, not the app on your desktop, the settings docs say.
- Installing over the old version: Cursor's docs don't say whether running a new installer on top of an older version replaces it. They describe in-app updates as the way the app moves to a new version.
- 1.0.0 may not show up yet. It isn't in the official changelog, so Check for Updates may not offer it. Older builds eventually show an "Update required" screen until you update, the deployment docs say.
