Check your Grok Bot usage with a skill you run yourself
With weekly usage limits on many Grok Bot users' minds, a practitioner on X shared a cheap way to keep tabs: save the check as a skill and run it only when you want a number.
Iggy M, who posts as @iggym, described the skill on Nov. 3. It looks up the weekly limit a single time, records how much has been used, when the limit resets and which Bots used the most, and saves that record to a file. "No routine, no polling," the post said.
The point is timing. A routine runs on a schedule whether or not you need the answer, and each run uses some of your allowance. A skill sits idle until you call it.
How to set one up
- Ask your Bot to check your current weekly usage and tell you the percent used, when it resets and which Bots used the most.
- If the answer is what you want, ask the Bot to save those steps as a skill with a short name, such as "log usage."
- Decide where the result goes. A note in a file is enough. Iggy M keeps it in a code repository or a drive, but you don't need either; a plain file the Bot keeps is fine.
- When you want a reading, ask the Bot to run the skill by name.
Keep it simple. Only log what you'll actually read. If you check once a week before planning big jobs, that is one run a week instead of dozens.
What to do with it
Look at your routines. If one exists only to report status, replace it with a skill you run by hand.
