Template of the week: SMF Works' one-click Grok Bot catalog
If you already know how to plan a bot, the next shortcut is a ready-made profile you can add in one click. Michael Gannotti of SMF Works published a GitHub catalog of marketplace Grok Bot templates that do exactly that.
It is a community project. The README says: "These templates are an unofficial community project by SMF Works, not affiliated with SpaceXAI."
What it is
The repo is https://github.com/smfworks/grok-bot-templates. Gannotti introduces himself in the README as a Principal AI at Microsoft who runs AI research at SMF Works. Each row is a ready-made bot with an "Add to Grok Bot" link that points at an x.ai/bot/ marketplace page.
As of the README's Oct. 9, 2026 verification note, the catalog lists nine templates:
- AI Claim Checker: Paste an AI launch post, benchmark chart, or price claim and get a dated, sourced claim card tagged supported, vendor-only, contradicted, or unverifiable.
- AI Daily Radar: A morning AI brief tuned to your stack, with launches, price changes, and benchmark claims from the last 24 hours.
- Bot Team Chief of Staff: Checks what each bot actually did, catches sloppy or unverified work, and sends a short daily pulse plus a weekly team review.
- Bourne Bot: A personal security advisor for accounts, devices, location, money, family, and reputation, with incident walkthroughs.
- Builder Prime: The builder half of a two-bot coding team. It plans, codes, tests, and opens pull requests, then fixes what review finds.
- First-Week Coach: A 10-minute daily lesson for seven days for people new to Grok Bot.
- Gatekeeper Prime: The reviewer half. It reviews every pull request in public, demands proof that fixes work, keeps main protected, and merges only on your yes.
- GitHub PR Desk: A weekday morning sweep of chosen repos for new PRs, issues, and comments, with a merge, request-changes, or close verdict on each PR.
- Sittawhile: A short daily companion visit in a voice you choose.
Builder Prime and Gatekeeper Prime are the human-in-the-merge pair. That lines up with the "human merge" idea in our repo ops desk coverage and with the coding handoff story on engineering templates. This catalog is the broader shelf, not a rehash of that pair alone.
How it differs from last week's kit
Our earlier Template of the week covered Cobus Greyling's paste-ready PROFILE.md kit with a Bot Ready score. SMF Works is a different path: marketplace add links, not files you paste into Edit Profile. Greyling's kit is still useful when you want to read the full operating contract before anything is created. This catalog is useful when you want the official add flow and a short setup walkthrough the bot runs for you.
When to use it
- You want a named job (claim checking, morning AI brief, PR desk, first-week coaching) and prefer a marketplace install over writing a description from scratch.
- You want a two-bot coding pair where one builds and one reviews, with you still on the merge.
- You lead a small bot roster and want a chief-of-staff style pulse without inventing that bot yourself.
Skip it if you need SpaceXAI-verified templates only, or if you are not willing to read what a one-click add installs before you connect plugins.
How to call it
- Open the catalog README.
- Pick a template and open its "Add to Grok Bot" link.
- Click Add to Grok Bot, then let the bot walk you through its short setup, per the README.
Three of those add links (AI Claim Checker, Builder Prime, Gatekeeper Prime) returned HTTP 200 from a logged-out HEAD check on Oct. 10, 2026. The README itself says every link was opened logged-out on Oct. 9 and loaded its public template page.
Before you add: three safety notes
- Read the template page first. A one-click add creates a bot with someone else's standing instructions. Skim the job, what it touches, and any stop signs before you finish setup.
- This is not a SpaceXAI pack. The README says the catalog is unofficial and not affiliated with SpaceXAI. Treat it like any community template: useful, not blessed.
- Keep sends, merges, and money behind stop signs. Pair Builder and Gatekeeper only if you stay on the merge. Put first-week sends and calendar mail behind approvals until a few runs look right. See Stop signs and How do you plan a bot?.
